Acle Academy’s Team Peregrine Road to Nationals

On Friday 1st February 2019, 3 teams from Acle Academy took part in the Formula One in Schools, East Anglia Regional Finals. Team Apollo, Team PACE and Team Peregrine were made up of pupils from all year groups and had to work together as a team to develop a racing car, portfolios, a verbal presentation and a pit display. This challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills, financial strategy and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.

Team Peregrine qualified for the National Finals on the 11th and 12th March 2019. This is a huge achievement and a fantastic opportunity for Jake Watts, Ben Garrod, Dan Underwood and Joshua-John Matthews. They also won the award for Team Identity which is a fantastic award to win. Follow their journey at and on Instagram (@peregrineracingacle) and Twitter (@Peregrineacle). Ben Garrod and Joshua-John Matthews of Team Peregrine commented; “This is an incredible opportunity and we’re all very excited.” – “I still can’t believe it!”

Team Peregrine now need to focus on their social enterprise by developing their car further, improving their pit displays and portfolios. They are campaigning to raise £1500 through sponsorship and fundraising to attend the National Final. This amount will allow them to create a professional campaign, create their team outfits and identity, an impressive pit display, accommodation and travel expenses.

The national finals will be live streamed across the World and could be a great opportunity for local businesses to showcase their company. Here is a link to the World Finals 2018 in Singapore (

We are particularly interested in gaining sponsorship from companies specialising in the following areas:

• Printing
• Marketing/PR
• Engineering
• Racing/Car industry

Team Peregrine will also be offering a raffle prize draw during the national finals as part of their pit display. We would welcome any donations from the local community for prizes.

If there are any local businesses, friends of the school or family members who wish to offer their services or sponsor Team Peregrine please contact Miss N Hassall at Acle Academy on or call 01493 750431.

Acle Academy are incredibly proud of these boys and wish them the best of luck on the road to nationals!

Miss N Hassall, Head of Design and Technology, commented; “The boys have worked very hard as a team, learning new skills and developing ideas for the regional final. Next stop – Nationals!!”

Mrs H Watts, Principal, added; “ We are very proud of the team’s efforts and their wonderful achievement of reaching the National Finals. We wish them lots of luck with the campaign and the competition”
