Firside Junior School Celebrates Opening of Refurbished and Improved Library with VIP Guests
Students and staff at Firside Junior School, part of The Wensum Trust, recently gathered to celebrate the official opening of their refurbished and improved library, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of the Friends of Firside.
They were joined by some very special visitors; Mildred the Crocklebog, who had made the perilous journey from the swamps of BeWILDerwood to the Norwich school, accompanied by owner and author of BeWILDerwood, Tom Blofeld.
Children and adults patiently waited outside of the library, ready for the first glimpse of the new space and were treated to a poem by Tom Blofeld before the ceremonial ribbon cutting, assisted by The Wensum Trust CEO, Gerard Batty and Mildred.
Students in the comfort of their new library, came together for a short reading from Tom and Mildred, that was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff alike.
Tom Blofeld commented; “It is so very important that children have the opportunity to go on adventures, getting lost in the world of books and have an inspiring space to do that. It’s so lovely to see all the hard work everyone put into this project and it’s great to be a part of it!”
The event was rounded off with a speech from Roz Robinson, Headteacher at Firside Junior School, thanking the Friends of Firside and a special mention to Craig Nickerson-White from The Wensum Trust for managing the project.
Craig Nickerson-White from The Wensum Trust commented: “We would like to thank all the contractors who have been wonderful in accommodating our timelines, to ensure the project ran smoothly and was delivered on time. This has been a great team effort demonstrating our commitment to partnership working, to deliver the best possible outcomes”.
Roz Robinson, Headteacher at Firside Junior School, added: “Reading is at the heart of everything we do in school. It is an essential skill for life. Beyond that we want to instil a love of reading in every child. Reading opens the door to world of rich language, creativity and imagination. A welcoming, vibrant and modern space where children can come and explore the books we have, therefore, is vitally important to the school. Thanks to the hard work of Friends of Firside our dreams for an inspiring and engaging Library have been fulfilled”.
