On a chilly and wet February evening there was a bright glow of hope and excitement in Stage 2 at the Theatre Royal. The Wensum Trust was officially launched. This was a celebration of a brand new Trust which has its central offices in North West Norwich, but has schools of all phases all over Norfolk. The DfE has stated that it is a unique Trust with is origins being at Secondary and Infant school with the two founding schools being Hellesdon High School and Arden Grove Infant and Nursery School.
The Trust was delighted to welcome to the event partners and colleagues from a diverse range of organisations. Joining us on the evening were representatives from all the Local Governing Bodies of schools in the Trust, FOUR Advertising Agency, Theatre Royal Norwich, North Walsham Rugby Club, Price Bailey, Eye Film and representatives from schools who are currently consulting to join the Trust.
We were particularly pleased to welcome the Regional Schools Commissioner for the East of England, Dr Tim Coulson. There were presentations on the evening by John Smith who is the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Gerard Batty the Chief executive Office for The Wensum Trust. All of the presentations had a common theme which is ensuring that the children in the Trust receive the best possible provision in the classroom and this is achieved by removing the everyday distractions from schools and allowing them to focus on the core business of teaching and learning. Indeed Dr Coulson in his summing up stated that the Trust was a model which other Trusts at earlier stages in their development should follow. Another theme of the presentations focussed on the trust providing wonderful extracurricular activities for all the children in every phase.
The highlight of the evening was the Trust Choir who performed a song from the hit show, High School Musical. The song very appropriately was “We’re all in this together”
Well, we are indeed in this together and we know we are going to make a difference to the lives of every young person who attends the trust schools. If you want to find out more about the Trust schools and the work of the Trust please see the website for contact details.
