English

This week we have been reading the story, "The slightly annoying elephant" by David Walliams. We have learnt about verbs (doing words). We watched a you tube video about giraffes and then used verbs to talk about what they were doing. You can watch it too!

We also learnt about how to write the perfect sentence: start with a CAPITAL LETTER, use finger spaces between your words, always finish your sentence with a full stop. The children then wrote their own "perfect" sentence about the story.

Maths

In maths this week we have been counting, reading and ordering numbers to 20. We have looked for missing numbers and also investigated numbers that are greater than and less than a given number. We did this by making a tower of cubes and then making taller and shorter tower to compare.

Topic

This week we started our topic "Carnival of the Animals". We will be learning all about different types of animals, their habitats and how to look after them throughout this term. We started by sharing all our ideas about animals. We thought about wild animals, sea creatures, farm animals, endangered animals, pets and insects. The children had lots of good ideas. We learnt about dangerous animals, using the words "aggressive, poisonous and venomous" and then we sorted a range of animals into these categories.

P.E.

We have been really lucky with the weather so far as it has been quite warm as well as dry and sunny. We will try to do P.E. every week as long as the weather permits, even if it is cold! Please make sure your child is wearing their P.E kit every Tuesday. Jogging bottoms or leggings are great if the weather is cold and don't forget a jumper or cardigan.
