Garrick Green

Infant School

Year 2 19th October 2020

It's almost half term...

Wow- what an amazing and busy first half term we have had. The children have settled back in to new school routines well and we are really pleased with all of their hard work and effort.

English

This week in English we are reading The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We will be writing book reviews, sequencing events in the story, retelling the story and making puppets.

Maths

In maths this week we are thinking about time. We have been thinking of the different measures of time including...

seconds

minutes

hours

days

weeks

months

years

We will be making clocks and beginning to look at learning how to tell the time. We will be discussing the features of a clock and making o'clock using these.

Here is an interactive clock you could use at home https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

It would be really useful at home to practice the days of the week song and months of the year. Talk about the things you do on different days and special events in the different months.

Here is the months of the year song...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5enDRrWyXaw&safe=active

We sing the days of the week to the tune of the Adams Family theme song...

There's Sunday and there's Monday. There's Tuesday and there's Wednesday. There's Thursday and there's Friday and Saturday as well. Days of the week *clap clap*. Days of the week *clap clap*. Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week *clap clap*.

Home Learning

If you are isolating during these difficult times we have some ideas to help you learn at home. Please go to the learning section of the website and then choose Home learning resources and Year 2. On here are some Maths and English ideas. They do not need to be printed out, although some can be, and there are links to useful websites, videos and games to support you. We will be sending home a Home Learning Book after half term, so children can record all of there work if they wish to. This can be used for weekly home learning or if you have to go into isolation. This book can stay at home but teachers will look at it when children return to school if the child wishes to share their work.

***THIS WEDNESDAY***

Wednesday is the last day of half term and children are invited to wear their own clothes in return for a contribution of £1.

Thank you

Thank you for all of your support this half term. We hope you all have a relaxing and safe half term. We ask that children continue to read every day and have lots of opportunities to play games, draw and enjoy the things that they love! See you all on Monday 2nd November.
