Wow! Half term.

English

This week the children have listened to a familiar story; The Gruffalo. We have designed a monster of our own to scare the Gruffalo and then described it. We have also talked lots about the story and the order events happen in. Then we sequenced a set of pictures to retell the story.

Maths

In maths this week we have started to learn about time. We have made our own clocks and talked about where the numbers go. We also learned the days of the week and the order to say them in. We listened to a song to help us. Here is the link if you want to listen at home.

P.E./ Things to do at home

In P.E. this half term we have been focussing on the skills sidestepping, hopping, galloping, skipping and hopscotch. These skills have been quite challenging but the children have worked really hard. However it would be really useful if you could practise these skills with your child at home. Here are some challenges.

Hopping Challenge

  • Hop on 1 leg for 10 hops. (on the spot)
  • Hop on 1 leg for 10 hops, then on the other leg for 10 hops. (on the spot)
  • Hop on 1 leg for 10 hops. (moving forwards)
  • Hop on 1 leg for 10 hops, then on the other leg for 10 hops. (moving forwards)

Galloping Challenge

  • Can you gallop like a horse? (one foot in front)
  • Gallop fast
  • Gallop slowly
  • Swap your front leg and try the challenges again.

Skipping Challenge

Skipping can be very tricky for some children. It is a good idea to start slowly and focus on step, hop, step, hop. Then you can speed things up.

  • Skip along the path when you go for a walk.
  • Sing a song to help you skip - Skip to my lou is good.

Hopscotch Challenge

You do not need a hopscotch drawn out to practise this. My children do it around the house and all over the garden!

  • Hopscotch slowly chanting "hop" when you hop and "scotch" when you land on 2 feet.
  • Hopscotch always using the same leg to hop.
  • Hopscotch swapping legs each time.

Finally.........Thank you

Thank you all for your amazing support this half term. We hope you all have a relaxing and restful half term. We ask that you continue to read every day but also that you make lots of opportunities to play games, draw and enjoy all the things your child loves! Keep safe and see you all on Monday 2nd November,
