Curriculum Intent

The Enterprise, Media, and Technology Faculty curriculum seeks to meet the aims and scope of the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 National Curriculum in the subject areas of Computing, Design & Technology, Enterprise, Food/Hospitality & Catering, and Travel and Tourism.

The school curriculum seeks to provide outstanding personal development by supporting, promoting, and instilling the values of APHS - Ambition, Pride, Happiness, and Success.

The Enterprise, Media, and Technology curriculum has the following intent:

Value Intent
Ambition To develop the knowledge, practical skills, and understanding required to be successful in STEMM industries, as well as replicate work processes and produce outcomes that are considered to be industry standard.
Pride Through encountering real-life scenarios and working hard to overcome them, students should produce work of a high personal standard and feel proud of their accomplishments.
Happiness Students should enjoy working on a broad and highly relevant curriculum that meets their local needs and develops skills for possible future employment.
Success To gain a variety of GCSE and Vocational Qualifications at the highest possible level. To offer a broad portfolio of qualifications to prepare them for the future.

 



Curriculum Implementation

Key Stage 3 is delivered in Years 7, 8, and 9 across three years. Students will then undertake their options process during Year 9, after which Key Stage 4 is formally delivered in Years 10 and 11 across two years.

At Key Stage 4, the faculty provides the following curriculum offer:

  • WJEC Eduqas Level 2 Vocational Award in Catering and Hospitality
  • AQA GCSE Design and Technology
  • Edexcel Pearson Level 2 BTEC Award in Travel and Tourism
  • Edexcel Pearson Level 2 BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise
  • Cambridge National Creative iMedia (level 1/2)

 



Curriculum Impact

The Enterprise, Media, and Technology faculty makes a significant contribution to the Open Element of the Progress 8 Performance Measure.

2019 Results:

  • 100% pass rate Computer Science
  • 89% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in Design and Technology
  • 100% pass rate in Catering and Hospitality
  • 100% pass rate in Travel and Tourism

The first assessment for BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise is due to take place in Summer 2021.
