Welcome to Kittiwake Class
Please read below to find out about all of the exciting things that Kittiwake Class enjoyed last half term.

English and Reading

In English we were exploring the poem Night Mail by W.H. Auden.  The children really enjoyed the accompanying Night Mail film narrated by Benjamin Britten.  They found it really inspiring as it brought the poem to life and enabled them to really explore the rhythm and rhyme in the poem.  We explored lots of different poetry techniques and used these to help us to write our own poems based on Night Mail.  We brought our poems into the modern day, thinking instead about how mail is most often delivered electronically.  The children produced some amazing poems, demonstrating a wide range of techniques to make their poems really effective.

Maths

We have been continuing our learning about fractions in Kittiwakes.  We have really focused in on the vocabulary and practical, visual and abstract representations of fractions.  We have worked hard to develop our understanding of how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and we also linked this work to decimals and percentages.

PE

Our class PE days this term are Wednesdays with Mrs Morrell and Fridays with Miss Clarke.  If the weather is suitable we intend to be outdoors for both sessions; therefore please ensure your child has the full and correct PE kit on these days (they come dressed in PE kit on Wednesdays and bring their PE kit to school on Fridays).

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning will continue as usual on a Thursday afternoon. It is important your child has an appropriate change of clothes – long sleeves and trousers and a change of footwear (wellies would be most suitable).

Class Dojo

Class Dojo will continue to be used this year. It is a great space where you can view photos, videos and information about what is happening in Kittiwakes and across the school.
If you require another invitation, please do not hesitate to ask.

Home Learning

Children in Kittiwake Class are expected to complete the following work each week as part of their home learning to support them in their journey towards SATs:

1.One test from their Maths SATs Practice Book

2.One test from their English SATs Practice Book

3.One test from their GPS SATs Practise Book

4.Practise and learn their individual spellings
