Welcome to Kittiwake Class
Please read below to find out about all of the exciting things that Kittiwake Class enjoyed in the Summer term.
English and Reading
In English we have been focusing on combining extended writing skills with our spelling, punctuation and grammar work through the Literacy and Language Read Write Inc. programme. The children absolutely loved the unit of work we completed based around the story of Robin Hood. They produced some amazing drama work and were particularly proud of their 'TV coverage' of the wedding of Lady Marian and Sir Guy of Gisborne. The children produced some fabulous newspaper reports covering the event.
As we are sure you know, reading is an essential part of your child’s education. We promote reading for pleasure in the school and expect the children to read every day. Reading is a fantastic way of finding out about our world and how we have responded to different events such as World War Two, migration and climate change.
It would be amazing if you could spend time hearing your child read or indeed read to them. The children have diary style planners to keep themselves organised and which are used as reading records.
We have been focusing on consolidating the children’s understanding of place value. We have been exploring how numbers are made and how they can be scaled up and down. We have also spent time ensuring that the children have a secure knowledge of how to calculate confidently and efficiently. We have been using equipment in maths to ensure that they can understand and visualise what is happening.
Our class PE days this term are Wednesdays with Mrs Gathercole and Fridays with Miss Clarke. If the weather is suitable we intend to be outdoors for both sessions; therefore please ensure your child has the full and correct PE kit on these days (they come dressed in PE kit on Wednesdays and bring their PE kit to school on Fridays).
The children have enjoyed our woodland and also had a fantastic trip to the beach and a lovely day at Holkham for Woodland Camp. The Year 6 children stayed for a campfire cookout, where Miss Lowe excelled herself with a delicious Cowboy Hotpot meal served with jacket potatoes.
As a special end of year treat we also went to Holkham High Ropes which was an amazing experience. Miss Clarke even had a go!
Outdoor learning will continue as usual on a Thursday afternoon. It is important your child has an appropriate change of clothes – long sleeves and trousers and a change of footwear (wellies would be most suitable).
Class Dojo will continue to be used this year. It is a great space where you can view photos, videos and information about what is happening in Kittiwakes and across the school.
If you require another invitation, please do not hesitate to ask.
A homework menu or homework project ideas list will be given out at the beginning of each half term. Your child will need to complete a minimum of five activities each half term, sharing a piece on Dojo each week on a Wednesday. Children also get weekly individual spellings.
We will communicate homework via Class Dojo.
Please can you ensure that all belongings are named (PE kits, wellies, school uniform, bags, coats etc.)
