Rudolph Run at Holkham Hall

We had an amazing time taking part in our Rudolph Run last Friday at Holkham Hall. The sun shone and even the deer came out to support us! Please make sure all sponsorship monies are back to school by Friday so we can make our donation to Tapping House before Christmas.

The Rudolph Run is an annual event we take part in to support Tapping House. This amazing local charity supports patients and families with life limiting conditions across Norfolk.

We were delighted to welcome RSPCA representative Leanne into school on Tuesday for a day of workshops and learning all about the RSPCA. We raised a fantastic £124.80 with a non-uniform day to help support their wonderful work.

Year 2 collaborate with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust

Year 2 recently took part in a workshop led by author and podcaster Ruthie Collins about the Wonder of eels. Ruthie is the author of the poem ‘The wonder of Eels’ and taught us lots of fascinating information about eels. The children then wrote their own poems about eels which will be on display at the Norfolk Wildlife trust visitor centre in Cley during May.

Some Special Visitors to our Nursery!

Our Nursery children enjoyed a fantastic visit from Pickles and Fidget the goats, and their wonderful owner Ali last week. The children were able to take them for a walk on a lead around the field and also feed them daisies and dandelions. Helping our children to understand the rural environment they live in is an important part of their time with us, and also helps to strengthen our role in our local community. Thank you so much Ali from Potters Farm, Wighton for coming in.

We were delighted to welcome Victoria from The Norfolk Hospice into school today to present the proceeds of our Rudolph Run event. We raised a brilliant £519 which will help local families access the wonderful care and services that The Norfolk Hospice provides. With Mrs Beck and Victoria are Edie and Ida, two of our top fundraisers. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event.

RNLI Day

We were excited to celebrate the RNLI this week. We completed a range of activities to learn more about the RNLI, their work and history. We were very lucky to welcome Mandy and Gary from Wells RNLI into school for a special assembly where they told us lots about water safety, and how to wear the RNLI saftey kit. They also did a special talk just for our Nursery children. Thanks so much Mandy and Gary!

Year Reception Celebrate Chinese New Year

Year Reception were very excited to welcome Ling, one of our parents, to the classroom to help us celebrate Chinese New Year. Ling told us all about the customs and ritual of New Year, and presented each child with gifts to bring good luck and fortune for the next year. Thank you so much Ling!

An exciting visitor for Year 4

Year 4 were very fortunate to have a visit from a real Scientist last week. Dr Susan Duncan is a scientist from North Norfolk who now works at the John Innes Centre. She came in to tell us about her job and how she got into Science. She will also be working with Year 4 during the year to support them with their Science learning as part of the Teacher Scientist Network. She told us all about her work with microscopes and taught us a very long scientific word for a plant she studies.

Our staff love to integrate their curriculum with the wonderful natural landscape and resources we have here at WPNS. Last week, Year 1 were learning about their senses so Miss Noakes and Mrs Hoddy took the children on a walk around the school grounds. Can you guess which sense they were focusing on?!

Our Nurture Group

Our Nurture group offers planned sessions with tailored activities based around the children's interests and likes. The sessions are designed to encourage communication, team work and social interaction outside their usual peer group. Some recent activities include these paper building challenges.

An amazing Gift For Year One Staff

Miss Noakes, Mrs Hoddy and Miss Gleadell were overwhelmed this week to receive this fantastic gift box from some of their Year 1 families. A beautiful card read "Thank you so much for a wonderful and fun school year. Year 1 parents have created a thank you box full of fun, practical goodies /resources to hopefully make next year just as wonderful"

Year 6 Beach Day

Year 6 were lucky enough to have a day of learning on Wells beach and in the Pinewoods with Lucy from Holkham. We enjoyed making natural obstacle courses and leading our blindfolded partners around the course. We also selected materials to create beach art. It was a fabulous day and we are so lucky to be able to make use of this fabulous local resource.

Purcell Music School Visit

Recently we were very lucky to host a whole school assembly with some musicians from The Purcell School IMPULSE Outreach Group. They brought a range of interesting instruments and played some beautiful music. We really enjoyed listening to different pieces of music and guessing what the songs were.

During Work Week, Years 1-6 had a visit from the Marine Conservation Society, who told us about the different careers in marine conservation. We also had a Cromer fisherman who came in to tell us all about the life of a fisherman. He even brought two special friends - a crab and a lobster!

Year 6 Art and DT workshop at APHS

Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic time at APHS this week participating in Art and DT workshops. Mrs Moffat, Mr Heron, Ms Light and Ms Balderstone inspired our children to create some wonderful pieces as part of the "My Norfolk Life" project in collaboration Wells Maltings. As well as being a great learning experience for Year 6, events like this help our pupils to become familiar with the APHS layout and staff, which makes for a more confident, smoother transition for them when they move up in September.

Bikeability Fun at WPNS

With the help and support of parents, carers and staff the children have been busy creating decorations for the Christmas Tide Tree Festival. The Christmas tide festival took place in the town on 26th November with a variety of stalls and attractions for families to participate in. All monies raised for the Schools Christmas Tree will be used by the PFA team for school events and resources.
