Butterflies

Welcome to Butterflies Class!

In Butterflies Class, our topic for the Summer term will be “My Amazing Body”.

The children will be finding out about the following areas:

  • What contributes to a healthy lifestyle

  • Who Florence Nightingale was and why she was an important individual

  • The history of the Olympic Games

  • Discovering all about the Olympic Games and some of the countries where they have been held

  • Creating sculptures based on Henry Moore sculptures and the Angel of the North

  • Designing and making a model playground

  • Learning about digital literacy and creating our own “Playground” with digital art

Our topics are integrated across the curriculum, throughout all subjects and in line with Big Writing for English. If you have any interesting artefacts, photos or even experiences your child would like to share which would link to our topic, please talk to your child’s teaching staff to arrange bringing them into school.

During International Week, we will be learning all about New Zealand; the famous landmarks and buildings, traditional food and listening to music associated with New Zealand. If you or your child would like to bring in any souvenirs or have any interesting facts, Miss Lilley would love to hear or see them during our International Week!

Please keep looking at Tapestry to see photos of our work.

PE

We have PE every Monday and Thursday. We ask that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days. Please could earrings be removed and longer hair tied back on PE days.  PE kit should include black shorts, a white t-shirt, plimsolls and black tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents. These should be kept in school on your child’s coat peg.

COOKING

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic regulations, we are not asking parents to send in cooking tubs this term. The children will take part in cooking/ food preparation activities within class at different points throughout the topic and food will be consumed in class at our daily snack session. Thank you for your understanding

HOMEWORK

Each week your child’s homework will be to complete 30 minutes of Maths Whizz and Reading Eggs which are assessed and monitored weekly. Children will read daily during their RWI lesson and we ask that they also read at home three times a week. Please sign your child's reading diary each time you hear them read. This will help your child to receive their reading sticker which contributes to them choosing a book to keep when their bookmark is filled with stickers. Every Friday each class will be competing for the reading trophy in celebration assembly - the more children that read 3 times a week, the more chance we have of winning!

If you have any queries or concerns, or if you would like an appointment to see your class teacher, Miss Lilley will be on the door each morning. If a meeting is needed, Mrs Lilley is also available after school, however please contact her to arrange this in advance.
