Woodpeckers

Welcome to Woodpeckers Class!

In Woodpeckers Class, our topic for the Spring is “Jungle Fever”. The children will be investigating the answers to the following questions:

  • What is a jungle?
  • Are rainforests the same as a jungle?
  • Where are jungles found?
  • Who lives in a jungle?
  • What animals can be found in the jungle?
  • What plants can be found in the jungle?
  • What is happening to the jungle?
  • How can we protect the jungle?

Our topics are integrated across the curriculum, throughout all subjects including our 'Big Writing' for English.

If you have any interesting artefacts, photos or even experiences your child would like to share which would link to our topic, please talk to your child’s teaching staff to arrange bringing them into school.

During International Week, we will be learning all about Egypt; the famous landmarks and buildings, traditional food and listening to music associated with Egypt. If you or your child would like to bring in any souvenirs or have any interesting facts, Miss Dyball would love to hear or see them during our International Week!

Please keep looking at Tapestry to see photos of our work.

PE

We have PE every Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is kept in school so that they have access to their PE kit at all times. Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents - These should be kept in school.
Please ensure earrings are removed on these days and that your child's hair is tied back.

COOKING

We do cooking on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has a labelled container in school each Monday so that they can take their delicious treats home.

HOMEWORK

Maths
Maths homework should now be completed on line using Maths Whizz. It is important that your child completes at least one hour of Maths Whizz per week. We will receive a report each week of how much time your child has spent on their homework.
If you have any problems with homework then please speak to Miss Dyball as soon as possible.

Spellings
Your child will receive a spelling grid with all the words they need to learn throughout the year. They will be assessed each half term and a new spelling grid will be sent home, highlighting the words they can successfully spell. Please continue to practice spellings throughout the year.

Reading
We will listen to your child read at least twice a week but we ask that children are heard reading at home three times a week and that their reading diary is signed each time. For every three reads your child will receive one sticker on their bookmark. Once their bookmark is full they will be able to choose a book of their choice to keep!
