Pop Art in the time of Covid

Year 9 students at Acle Academy have been adding a blast of colour to Covid-19.

Every year, our Art department runs a self-portrait project for Year 9 students. But this year, we chose to add a new twist... After classroom discussions surrounding potential themes, the students felt it was an ideal opportunity to document a moment in their personal history - living through a pandemic.

We chose to add some colour and excitement to mask-wearing and lock-downs by creating self-portraits inspired by the Pop artist Roy Lichenstein. Each student started with a photo of themselves, which they drew and re-worked with pens or pencils and strong black outlines.

Year 9 worked so hard on these portraits and each one of them is totally individual - well done to all involved.
