- Language Enrichment Training – Originally delivered through YEAT English Hub this discusses the principles of interactions and language enrichment when taking children’s current skills and next steps into consideration. Although Launchpad is briefly mentioned, this training is applicable for all, even if people don’t use Launchpad.
- Speech & Language – The Bedrock for Literacy – this interview with Kathy Brodie for the EYFS Summit with the Speech, Language & Communication focus, looks at how SLC Development underpins literacy readiness. However, we also discuss links with PSED, maths and the move towards a Knowledge-Based Curriculum.

New CPD resources
- Using Interactions to Support SLCD - This session is aimed at EYFS Leaders and Practitioners, including those who work with younger children. There's a focus on interaction strategies & principles that support different types of Speech, Language & Communication skill gaps. As well as using the analogy of having a Toolkit of strategies which can be utilised with different children at different times, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to SLC support & Language Enrichment.
- Using the Learning Environment to Support Skill Development - This session is aimed at EYFS Leaders and Practitioners, including those who work with younger children. It builds on the Interaction Session above, but it can be viewed as a stand-alone session. In this session, the use of Learning Environment & Daily Routines is specifically targeted to embed interventions and to close SLC and other developmental skill gaps.
Supporting pupils' speech and language needs
The ability to talk and listen affects our ability to read, write and learn at school. Without a broad vocabulary, children struggle to access and understand all areas of the curriculum. It can affect how we behave, make friends, manage our mental health and even our future careers, with those who start school with poor vocabulary twice as likely to be unemployed as adults.
With the right provision in place, outcomes for these children can be significantly improved.
