Wembley Experience for BMPS Pupils

On a very cold and wet Friday afternoon, 14 pupils and 3 staff members set off in the school minibus, bound for Wembley to watch The Lionesses take on The Netherlands, in a must win game for England.

As part of our PE Premium funded project, 'Be Inspired', one of our aims is to introduce as many of our pupils as possible to the magic of live sport.   Our trip to Wembley on Friday 1st December was our first outing and boy it did not disappoint!

After a 4.5 hour journey south, we arrived at the home of English Football.  Wembley stood tall in the distance. What an incredible sight, as it was an evening game, the stadium looked even more impressive lit up! !  None of the pupils had ever been to the stadium before, some hadn't been to London and only a handful had seen live sport.

The game was full of drama from start to finish.  After going down 2- 0 the mighty Lionesses came back with gusto in the 2nd half scoring 3 goals to win the game 3-2. If there was ever a lesson about not giving up and finding a way, this was it!  The atmosphere throughout the entire evening was electric and our pupils were simply mesmerised!  An awesome advert for women's sport and football in general and certainly an evening those 14 pupils will never forget.  The trip has been the talk of the school ever since. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips to emerse our pupils in live sport....watch this space!
