Eco Council
Our Thriving Eco Council
Since we first launched our Eco Council back in 2022, it has become a truly integral and exciting part of life here at Kinsale Infant School! This year, we once again have a wonderfully enthusiastic group of eco councillors who are full of brilliant ideas to make our school even more eco-friendly.
How Our Council is Chosen
Becoming an eco councillor is a proud moment for our children, and the selection process is a great way for them to practice using their voices:
- Year 2: Children who wish to join complete a special application form. We currently have four dedicated Year 2 councillors.
- Year 1: Children stand up and confidently explain to their class why they would be a great addition to the committee. We start the year with two Year 1 councillors.
- Summer Term Additions: As our younger children settle into school life, our Reception children are invited to stand for election in the Summer term. We also welcome two more Year 1 children to the council at this time!
All of our representatives are carefully chosen by our teachers and staff based on their enthusiasm and commitment to looking after our planet.
What We Are Working On Today
Mrs McGibbon continues to meet with our eco councillors every fortnight. The team is always hard at work finding new ways to improve our school environment and reduce our carbon footprint, keeping us on track to achieve our Eco Awards!
Right now, the Eco Council is doing a fantastic job leading the rest of the school in connecting with outside companies that champion climate action and renewable energy. We are so incredibly proud of the responsibility they take for our planet!
