Support & Funding

In September 2025, Wensum English Hub launched the DfE funded secondary support pilot. 

Backed by funding and rooted in research, we’ve brought our tried-and-tested reading expertise to a small number of secondary schools providing bespoke support for KS3 including a comprehensive Reading Review and ongoing guidance grounded in The Reading Framework (DfE, 2023).  

The great news is that the pilot is expected to continue for 2026-2027!

Reading for Pleasure: Transforming Your School’s Reading Culture

Free Secondary CPD – Teacher Training

Following the hugely positive response to our Primary Reading for Pleasure course, we are delighted to announce that our FREE Reading for Pleasure CPD will be available next year and specifically designed for secondary schools. 

With national evidence showing a continued decline in reading for pleasure among young people in the UK, particularly at secondary level, this course aims to support schools in reigniting a love of reading across the curriculum. Research consistently highlights that fewer pupils are choosing to read independently, with engagement dropping sharply as students move into secondary education — making this work more urgent than ever.

The TSRC programme is a sustained, research based CPD programme  which will explore practical, evidence-informed approaches.

Programme aims:

  • Understand the research underpinning RfP practice and pedagogy
  • Widen knowledge of children’s literature
  • Transform whole school reading culture in your school
  • Develop the leadership skills to initiate and sustain change
  • Become advocates for RfP and share experiences and best practice

This FREE course is DfE approved and open to secondary teachers and leaders who want to make reading central to school life.
