Coronation celebrations May 2023

On Friday 5 May we held a special day to mark the Coronation of King Charles III. All week, the children in school have been learning about the British monarchy throughout history and about the significance of the upcoming Coronation.

On Friday, we held a special non-uniform day where children (and staff) could either dress for a Buckingham Palace garden party or in red, white and blue. There were some fabulous outfits from both children and adults which added to the spirit of the day. Even Mr Laskey wore a tie!

Children learnt more about the Coronation on Friday and some children made crowns ready for lunchtime.

At lunchtime, it was a whole school effort to move all the tables and chairs into the quads for a special Coronation 'Big Lunch'. All of the children worked together with the staff to get the tables all set up. Excellent teamwork everyone!

How fantastic it was to see our whole school community eating together in a street party style! Our fabulous kitchen team made extra special party picnic lunches which came with a delicious crown biscuit. The quads were a sea of red, white and blue and there was a real buzz around the quads as everyone shared lunch together.

During our Coronation 'Big Lunch' we were treated to an amazing rendition on the trumpet of 'God Save the King' from one of our Year 6 pupils, which was incredible - you could have heard a pin drop whilst he played. The children have also been practising a special Coronation Song which they enjoyed coming together to sing.

It has been a fantastic day and we are so pleased that we were able to mark this important occasion with the children. A day to remember at Firside!
