Our Community
Learning in the Community
We value our position in the local community. It is important to us that the children develop an understanding of their heritage and the area in which they live.
The school regularly use St Nicholas' church for Harvest Festival and Christmas celebrations. Canon Malcolm also leads whole school assemblies each half-term and supports us with our RE learning.
For many years we have had regular links with Holkham Estate. The children have enjoyed outdoor learning sessions, camping in the woods, Christmas at Holkham, field study on the beach and most recently, Key Stage two have visited Holkham to find out about different jobs as part of Work Week.
Each year, we continue to strengthen our links with the Wells Maltings Trust. Through assemblies and workshops the school have learnt about local heritage and art. In previous years, the children have studied Wells through the ages, looking at life from 1900 to 1920, which was brought to life through drama presentations. They have found out about the history of fishermen and smugglers and studied coastal art. We are delighted to be taking the whole school to The Maltings on the last day of term to watch their Christmas Film!
Linked to our foundation subjects, the classes have previously prepared exhibits for the Town's Shoe Trail, where they found out about the history of some significant houses across the town.
As a whole school, we have been involved with the Maltings Full Circle Project, which will offer history and art activities based on the Bronze Age, Egyptians, Romans and Edwardians.
Each class benefits from at least one community reader who visits them weekly to support reading. The community readers are invited to attend our class Curiosity Cafes and an end-of-year tea party.
We have developed our 'visits and visitors' program as another exciting way of involving the community in our learning, so that we are broadening our children's horizons as well as continuing to strengthen our community links and partnerships.
