Wells-next-the-Sea

Primary & Nursery School

Our Governors

The Trustees of the Wensum Trust have overall responsibility for the organisation and running of the school. This includes matters relating to standards, the school budget, staffing and buildings.

The school governors form the Local Advisory Board (LAB) and have devolved responsibility for the oversight of teaching and learning and for ensuring high standards in progress and outcomes for all children. Members of the LAB also have responsibility for a number of devolved policies including SEND, Admissions and Behaviour.

There is one LAB with nine members for both Wells Next-the-Sea Primary and Nursery School and Burnham Market Primary School. The LAB meets at least once each half term and considers information provided by the head teacher and staff as well as information on progress and outcomes for groups of children. The LAB provides both support and challenge in respect of the issues under consideration.

There are no sub-committees but members of the LAB each take at least one area of interest to investigate, improve understanding and to ask relevant questions. These responsibilities involve visits to both schools, meetings with lead staff and, from time to time, interviews with groups of children.  The outcomes of visits are written up and reported to the full LAB. Governor responsibilities are linked to priorities set in the School Improvement Development Plans for each school, as specified in the table below.
