Over the last two weeks, the Year 4 classes visited Norwich Castle Museum to learn more about how people in Ancient civilisations lived. This is because last term we were learning all about Ancient Greece. We went on a coach and we were a little bit early so when we got there we had a little bit of play time. 

The first activity was we went to a movie room and the guide told us about the four things that we would be doing during the day. The first activity we did was we looked at tools from ancient civilisations including Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. We got to handle the artefacts which was really good. Some were sharp so we had to be careful not to swing them around! One was a scythe which was used to cut the crops.

The next activity we did was about writing. We learned that you might be in school for 10 years. In the first year you would learn to hold a stylus and in the second year you would learn how to write. We practised writing on blue tac!

         

Then we had lunch. After lunch we went back to the movie room and we learned about buildings and structures. We had to sort the structures from oldest to newest. It was quite tricky as you just had to look at the pictures for clues.

 Then we had a go at building our own civilisations using blocks.

       

The last activity was another writing activity and we talked about Theo the spaceman to learn about democracy. We had some interesting discussions about rule of law, for example, if I dropped something and someone picked it up, who does it belong to? These were all things that Ancient Civilisations taught us.

We enjoyed our trip out. Our favourite bit of the trip was looking at artefacts in the museum.
