Children at Heather Avenue Infant School enjoyed an exciting and informative assembly this week, thanks to a special visit from Happy Smiles Dental Clinic. The session was packed with fun demonstrations, helpful tips, and plenty of opportunities for the children to join in and learn how to take great care of their teeth.
Learning How to Brush Properly
The dental team showed everyone the best way to brush their teeth, using small circular movements to clean every surface. The children learned that brushing should take two full minutes, making sure to reach all the important areas: the front, the back, the chewing surfaces, and especially those tricky corners.
Good Foods vs. Not-So-Good Foods
The assembly also explored how the foods we eat can help or harm our teeth. The children sorted different foods into “good choices” and “not-so-good choices,” discovering that fruits, vegetables, cheese, and water are great for healthy teeth, while sugary snacks and drinks should be kept to a minimum.
Morning Routine Matters
One surprising fact the children learned was that teeth should be brushed before breakfast, not after. This helps protect the enamel from acids in food and keeps teeth strong throughout the day.
Water Wins
The dental team encouraged everyone to choose water as their main drink, especially between meals. It helps wash away food particles and keeps mouths fresh without adding sugar.
The children were enthusiastic, engaged, and full of thoughtful questions. The visit from Happy Smiles Dental Clinic has certainly inspired everyone to take even better care of their teeth, and to keep those smiles shining bright every day.
