Young Carers
Young Carers at Our School
At our school, we recognise that some children may have caring responsibilities at home. A Young Carer is a child who helps to look after a family member who may have an illness, disability, mental health need, or additional support needs.
We understand that being a young carer can sometimes be challenging, and we are committed to making sure every child feels safe, supported and able to enjoy their learning.
We are proud to have achieved the Carer Friendly Tick Award in recognition of our commitment to supporting Young Carers.
How We Support Young Carers
We offer a range of support to help our young carers feel happy and included at school, including:
- A named member of staff who young carers can talk to
- Time to talk or take part in small group activities
- A safe space where children can relax if they are feeling worried or tired
- Understanding and flexibility where needed
- Working closely with parents/carers and, when appropriate, outside agencies
We make sure support is provided in an age-appropriate and sensitive way, so children can be children and enjoy all aspects of school life.
Working Together
If you think your child may be a young carer, or if your circumstances change, please speak to a member of staff. Sharing this information helps us to provide the best possible care and support for your child.
