Arts Mark Gold Award Success

Heather Avenue Infant School awarded Arts Mark Gold by Arts Council England

We are delighted to receive the Arts Mark Gold Award for our work in further developing the arts across school.

It has been an absolute joy to consider our Arts Curriculum and develop this in line with the Arts Mark programme. Looking back over the last few years we have considered our Arts offer and thought about some of the exciting things we could do to enhance this further.

The School Council thought about some of the things that they would like to include in their Arts learning and came up with our 10 Arts based activities, which all our children complete whilst with us at Heather Avenue. Their ideas included completing some digital art, along with opportunities to visit the theatre, a gallery or museum and take part in film and music festivals.

We were so pleased with our award feedback and noted that our International Weeks were praised as opportunities to learn about the Arts across the globe. We know that the children gain so much from this. Our gallery focused on Emotions was another area mentioned in the report. We know that the children learnt so much about art and how it can represent emotions as well as supporting children to develop their emotional literacy.

The trust wide 'Wise about Words' project was also mentioned as we work with artists from Norwich Theatre Royal and our fellow trust schools to bring stories to life using various drama strategies. We believe that stories help children to learn more about themselves and the world around them. This work also helps us to deliver our vision of 'Preparing Children for a Bright Future in a Changing World'.

We are incredibly pleased with the work we have completed and will continue to enhance our provision and deliver the best possible curriculum for our children.
