Year 1

This week we are recapping the split digraph i-e. We have focussed on reading words with the split digraph in them For example:

kite

mine

fine

prime

grime

white

wine

We have also been really practising the tricky words. The children need to be quick at reading any saying these as it really improves fluency and confidence in reading.

Here are the first 3 sets of tricky words for you.

Year 2

This week we have been recapping the digraphs which make the /oa/ sound- oa, ow and o_e. Here are this week’s spellings…

such

luck

home

froze

foal

stone

toast

snowball

fifteen

sixteen

English

We have continued to explore the text ‘I Want My Hat Back’ by Jon Klassen this week. We recapped the prefix un- and that when it is added to the beginning of a word it means not.

We heard that Rabbit did not get eaten by Bear (phew!) and wrote letters to him using tricky words should, would and could to encourage him to apologise. Rabbit wrote back to the children and while year 2 focused on learning words with apostrophes for contraction…

…year 1 wrote a list of things for Rabbit to pack focusing on writing all sounds in words.

The children will also be thinking of adventures Rabbit and Bear can go on in the forest and begin to draw out a story map so they can write their own story using these characters next week.

Maths

Year 1

This week in year 1 we have been learning to count in 2s. We have learned that a pair is 2 and counted pairs of objects. We have focussed on counting from 0 for now and looked at the patterns for even numbers.

Here is the website we used to learn the counting in 2s song.

We also used a 100 splat square to practise counting along. You can try here.

Year 2

This week year 2 have been learning about equal groups. We know that for groups to be equal they have to have the same amount in. We have been describing equal groups and learning that these can be recorded as repeated addition like this…

There are 2 groups of 5

5 + 5

We then learnt that this can be expressed using the multiplication symbol.

2 lots of 5 is 2 x 5

There are 4 groups of 3

3 + 3 + 3 + 3

4 lots of 3

4 x 3

Geography Project - Coastline

This week we looked at photographs of Sheringham from the past and current photos. We became historians and discussed how Sheringham has changed. We discovered that it used to be a busy fishing village and now it is a busy seaside town with more shops and cafes.

We also learnt about the local hero Henry Blogg and why he was historically significant. You can have a virtual tour of the Blogg Museum if you click this link… https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=KWJYtuJosjq&hr=1&hl=1

As well as this we talked about what makes Sheringham a good coastal town and also used yellow, blue, white and black paint to create wave inspired paintings.
