This week is all about Spring! We have been sharing our knowledge of Spring and the changes that we will be seeing. We have used this to create Spring themed poems.
Maths
Year 1
This week we have continued to learn about halves of shapes and halves of amounts. We have focussed on remembering the fact that half is “2 equal parts” and have been sharing counters out between 2 people to find “half”
Then we have learnt that ¼ is 4 equal parts. We have folded shapes into 4 equal parts and also shared objects into 4 equal groups.
AT HOME:
FInd objects (toys or teddies)
Can you put them into 2 equal groups to find half?
Can you put them into 4 equal groups to find a quarter?
Year 2
This week we are focusing on addition and subtraction. We started the week by recapping adding and subtracting 10 from a 2-digit number and spotting that when we do this the ones digits always stay the same.
For example -
14 + 20 = 34
45 - 20 = 25
Next we learnt about relative facts- applying what we know. For example-
How can we easily solve 50 + 20? We know 5 + 2 = 7, so we know 50 + 20 = 70.
Why not have a go at these equations at home? Remember to explain what you are doing.
45 + 30 = 74 - 40 =
56 - 20 = 28 + 30 =
We have also been looking at different ways to partition 2 digit numbers. For example…
Knowing that numbers can be partitioned (split up) in different ways, and not just into tens and ones, can help us to solve addition and subtraction equations.
Art Project - Flower Heads
This week we have started a new art project called Flower Heads. We started the week by looking at different flower paintings and sculptures by famous artists such as Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Yayoi Kusami. Next we sketched some seasonal flowers and explored the shape and form of flowers using paper and playdough.
