This week all the children have become authors and have written their own stories about Bear and Rabbit, the characters from I Want My Hat Back. Each day the children have written a different part of their story using story maps they created last week. Why not ask them to retell you their stories at home?
Maths
Year 1
This week we have been counting in 2s and looking at adding and subtracting 2 from odd and even numbers. The children used numicon to create a counting in 2s number line. We started from 0 and also made a number line starting from 1.
We learned that adding 2 to an even number gives us the next even number and adding 2 to an odd number gives us the next odd number.
At the end of the week we learned about finding the difference - first there were 6 worms, then a bird ate 4……how many are left? So the difference between 6 and 4 is 2.
At home try some subtraction stories and talk about the difference (gap) between numbers.
Here is a template to try out your stories.
Year 2
This week we have been learning the 2 times tables. We have been counting in 2s (children need to be confident at counting in 2s up to 24 to support this), using the multiplication symbol and solving simple problems. At home you could practice quick recall of the 2 times tables. For example, what’s 5 x 2? What’s 8 x 2? We encourage the children to count un in 2s using their fingers.
Next week we will be focusing on the 10 and 5 times tables. Please support your child(ren) by counting to 100 in 10s and 100 in 5s.
Here is a great game to play at home…

Geography Project- Coastline
This is the final week of our geography project Coastline. After a class discussion the children talked about which human and physical features they would like to have in a coastal town. They then created their own maps and year 2s added a key.
