English

This week in English, the children have been levelling up. We have been giving them a simple sentence each day which we then added adjectives (words which describe a noun), more interesting verbs, adverbs (describe verbs) and conjunctions to give us more information. These sentences will form a short story by the end of the week. At home, you could have a go at up-levelling these sentences (either verbally or written)…

The girl found a coin.

The pirate jumped.

She looked out the window.

Maths

Year 1

In year 1 this week we have been learning about time. We have thought about time words and told stories using “before” and “after”. We have talked about our day and drawn a plan of things we do in the morning, afternoon and evening. We have learned the names of the days of the week and months of the year and sorted them into the correct order. Finally we have answered questions like what happened yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow?

Here is a link to the youtube songs we have listened to.

AT HOME...

What day will Ben go swimming?

When does Ben play football?

What is Ben going to do on Saturday?

Year 2

In year 2 this week we are exploring fractions. We have recapped half of shapes and amounts, explored quarters and learnt about thirds. We know the fractions are equal parts of whole things.

We have been using bar models and cherry models to help us find fractions of amounts.

There are some great resources on BBC Bitesize which you can try at home… https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z3rbg82

Art Project- Rain & Sunrays

Our new art project will teach children about printmaking. We will be learning about weather symbols and motifs, creating transient art, sketching lines, shapes and patterns, exploring textures.

You can find the knowledge organiser with all the key information and vocabulary attached to the end of this blog.

RSHE

This half term our theme is ‘Healthy Me’. We will be thinking about how we can keep ourselves clean and healthy and year 2 will be thinking of ways to keep motivated. We will talk about how medicines can make us better and how important it is to use them safely.

RE

This term we are focusing on Christianity with the theme, ‘Easter Resurrection’. We will be thinking about the question, ‘How important is it to Christians that Jesus came back to life after his crucifixion?’ We will be learning to re-tell the Easter story and understand what Jesus’ resurrection means for Christians.
