English

When we arrived back to school on Monday morning we found dragon tails hiding under doors, behind units, between books and inside baskets. We used positional language to describe where we had seen them and then used conjunctions to give more information. We have been thinking about how George, the main character, feels and why and written letters of advice to him about how he can look after his dragons.

Maths

Year 1
In year 1 this week we have been learning about time. We have thought about time words and told stories using “before” and “after”. We have talked about our day and drawn a plan of things we do in the morning, afternoon and evening. We have learnt the names of the days of the week and months of the year and sorted them into the correct order. Finally, we have answered questions like what happened yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow?

Here is a link to the YouTube songs we have listened to...

AT HOME

What day will Ben go swimming?

When does Ben play football?

What is Ben going to do on Saturday?

Year 2

In year 2 this week we are exploring fractions. We have recapped half of shapes and amounts, explored quarters and learnt about thirds. We know that fractions are equal parts of whole things.

We have been using bar models and cherry models to help us find fractions of amounts…

Science Project - Uses of Materials

This week we have been doing lots of testing materials. We carried out a paper test to see which paper was the strongest, roughest and most absorbent. We then used this information to help us answer questions about which paper would be the most suitable for different jobs.

We sorted materials into those which can be recycled and those that can’t and asked scientific questions such as ‘how long does it take for plastic to disappear,’ and ‘how are different materials recycled?’

RSHE

This half-term our theme is ‘Healthy Me’. We will be thinking about how we can keep ourselves clean and healthy and year 2 will be thinking of ways to keep motivated. We will talk about how medicines can make us better and how important it is to use them safely.

RE

This term we are focusing on Christianity with the theme, ‘Easter- Palm Sunday’. We will be thinking about the question, ‘Why was Jesus welcomed like a king or celebrity by the crowds on Palm Sunday?’
