Jade class blog - week commencing 2.2.26

This week ...

In phonics the children have been learning about split digraphs (magic e) and how the vowels turns into a long vowel e.g. make hive.   We have also been practising saying a sentence, counting the number or words and writing it.  The children thought carefully about capital letters, fingers spaces, letters sitting on the line and full stops.  We also looked at letter size.

We continued  writing a set sentence three times this week and we tried to focus on making sure our letters were the right way round and formed correctly. The children are getting better each week and are working hard on being able to segment a word into the individual sounds so that they can spell it accurately or phonetically.

Our new Talk Through Stories book this week was The Squirrels Who Squabbled.  The children enjoyed joining in the story and talking about working as a team and sharing their food.

In Maths we are learning more about the pairs of numbers that go together to make 5. We are using our hand to help us really visualise this. We are also singing the song 5 little speckled frogs to reinforce the number bonds to 5.

We also revisited using part/ whole models to work out our number bonds to 5.

In project we read the book  ‘When I was little’ and the children will discussed comparing now to then. We talked about how much the children have changed since they were babies and ordered photographs of Helen from a baby until now.

In RE we learnt all about the Hindu festival Holi.  We talked about  it celebrating Spring, love and new life.

The children had the opportunity to create their own Rangoli patterns with paint, pen and the transient art.
