Jade class blog - week commencing 9.2.26

This week .....

In phonics we continued to look at split digraphs (magic e).  The children practised identifying a-e, e-e, i-e,o-e and u-e in a range of words e.g   cake,   Pete,   nine,    pole,   cute.

The children continued to write a dictated sentence 3 times a week and they are doing really well with this. It is noticeable the progress being made. The children are really focussing on using their phonic knowledge, letter formation and using finger spaces and full stops. Some children are working hard on their letter formation instead as they are still finding this tricky.

We  also continued to write and act out our story scribes as well as reading in class.

In Talk Through Stories we looked at a range of vocabulary from The Squirrels Who Squabbled.  We discussed the words:  scurried, convinced, squealed, sprinted, hollered, squabbling, gathered and towering.

In Maths we learnt more about the pairs of numbers that go together to make 5. We used our hand to help us really visualise this. We also sang the song 5 little men in a flying saucer to reinforce the number bonds to 5.

We looked at making 6 and 7 by splitting the numbers into 5 and a bit more.  We placed counters onto a double dice frame, making 5 and a bit.

5 and 1 is the same as 6

In project we read the book Peepo, and looked at different household objects from the past and compared them to objects from today.  We talked about how they worked and what materials were used to make them.

In RE the children learnt about the the Islamic festival Eid and how it is celebrated.

On Friday afternoon for story time all the teachers swapped classes  and read a story to another class.

Wow, it is half term already and that means that  it is half way through the year! The children have done so well and look at how much they have learnt and are now able to do! They deserve a break!
