Jade Class Blog Week Commencing 9.3.26

This week ......

in phonics we learnt about igh and y  as alternatives for ie digraph - night, sky.  We learnt that the letter ‘y’ can take the place of the  letter ‘i’ in words, often at the end of words. We have not heard the children read this week as we have been carrying out phonic checks.  We will hear the children read again next week.

In Talk Through Stories we started a new book, The Lion Inside.  The children enjoyed listening to the story and were able to discuss the problem in the story, discuss why characters are nice/not nice and join in with favourite phrases.

This week was assessment week so we did not do story scribes.  All of  the children wrote a sentence without any help so that we could see what they can do independently. We are really pleased to see how much the children have progressed with their writing. We also continued with set sentence where the children practised forming sentences, including the tricky words I , We.  We also introduced 3 new tricky words this week :  said, here, there.  Please keep practising reading all of the tricky words taught so far  with the children.

We also assessed  maths but continued doing some mastering number work. We looked at breaking up numbers 6 - 10 into 5 and a bit, e.g. 5 and 2 make 7,  5 and 1 make 6.  We carried on using the language more than and fewer than.  Please can the children practise finding numbers more than and fewer than a given number to 10.

In RSHE we revisited PANTS and talked about good touch/bad touch.

The children have been enjoying going to the school library over the past few weeks.  We have listened to some lovely stories and  the children also take it in turns to change our classroom books.
