The children came back to school ready to learn and very excited to tell us about what they did over the Easter break.  They have enjoyed being able to go outside to play, especially playing with the water tray and the mud kitchen.  They were also very excited that the castle was finally open and they had their go on Friday!!

In Phonics we learnt that ‘ ue’  can also be represented as  ‘ew’  e.g. new, crew.We looked at the tricky word ‘my’ and practised reading the blue and yellow tricky words.  We have now covered all of the blue and yellow tricky words so the children now need to practise reading them in isolation and in their reading scheme books.  Please continue hearing your child read their reading scheme book as often as possible.  We recommend that your child practises reading their scheme reading book for 5 minutes everyday.

We continued with our daily writing of a dictated sentence - the children are doing brilliantly with these and if you wanted to practise this with them at home, then this would be great. The sentence just needs to a simple one with words the children can easily sound out. e.g. We had a picnic, He got a dog, She can run fast. The children have their sound mats and tricky word mats in front of them to help.

In maths, we learnt more about doubles , equal parts  as well as odd and even numbers .  The children recognise odd and even numbers as Numberblocks odd blocks and even tops.

double 5  is 10 and it is made up of 2 equal parts.

We also sorted objects into certain groups based on different features e.g. small, medium and large, colours, things that have spots and things that don't have spots.

We started a new Project this week, it is called Sunshine and Sunflowers. This week we listened to the story Billy’s Sunflower.

The children looked at different types of wild flowers and talked about the different parts of a flower.  They then had a go at some still life drawing and drew a picture of a vase of tulips.

In RE, we looked at Homes from around the world and talked about different kinds of houses, what makes a home and  why they are special.  In RSHE we thought about our families and why they are special.
