Jade class blog - week commencing 4.5.26

This week .....

in Phonics the children looked at  the soft c. The general rule is that if a c is followed by an i, e or y then it turns into an s sound. e.g cycle.  We also continued to revise blue and yellow tricky words as well as all of the digraphs taught so far.

We have continued to do set sentence and have focussed on using the tricky words - she, he, was.

We have been very busy this week painting lovely pictures based upon the artist - Kandinsky.  Due to this, we haven’t heard the children read but we have changed their book.  Please continue to hear your child read their scheme book as often as possible.  This makes a huge difference to their progress.

The children have really enjoyed finding out about the artist Wassily Kandinsky.  They have also drawn their own pictures using triangles and circles and thought carefully about colours and lines used to fill the shapes.

In Maths, we have practised recalling the parts of 5 when 1 part isn’t visible.  We used our fingers on one hand to find missing parts e.g. which fingers were up and which were folded down.

We also identified ‘ 5 and a bit’  in the numbers 6,7,8,9 and looked how this could be represented on a double dice frame and a ten frame.  The children were able to see how 5 was clearly represented.

Next week, we have our Maths event.  This will start off in the school hall where we will read a story.  We will then be doing a fun activity outside so please remember to come with suitable shoes and a coat - just in case it rains.

Have a good weekend.
