Jade Class Blog - week commencing 11.5.26

This week ....
This week
In phonics we have been learning all about soft g. The general rule is that if a g is followed by an i, e or y then it turns into an j sound. e.g fudge. We have continued to revise the yellow and blue tricky words. Please keep practising these at home.
In set sentence, we wrote different sentences containing the tricky word - he.
He can jump. He can clap. He can sing.
In Talk Through Stories we read the book - Slow Samson.

We finished our Kandinsky paintings, so we have heard the children read. Please keep hearing your child read as often as possible.
In Maths we have revised ‘5 and a bit’ using our ‘quick’ eyes. We looked at double dice frames and had to quickly decide whether a number was 10 or not 10. We identified 5 and the ‘bit’ e.g. 5 and the bit is 4 so that makes 9.
.
We then used the dice frame and our fingers to work out 2 numbers that went together to make 10.

Thank you for coming to our Maths Cafe all about number bonds to 10. The children really enjoyed listening to the story - Cockatoos by Quentin Blake. They were excited to show you how to use a ten frame and their fingers to work out how many Cockatoos had flown away.

In Project, we looked at the non fiction book - My First Book of Garden Bugs.

We went outside and looked for different kinds of garden animals. We used magnifying glasses to help us to identify them. The children enjoyed looking in the digging pit and found some really long worms. We also found a millipede and a woodlouse.
In RE, we continued our discussion about special places and thought about why churches are special. We looked at special features such as a pew, font and stained glass windows.
