Jade Class Blog - week commencing 18.5.26

This week ....

This week…

In phonics we have been revising the alternative for ai  -  ay  (play)  and split digraph a -e  ( name).  We have also practised reading words containing the split digraphs - e - e  (Pete),  o - e (note) , i - e ( nine) and u - e ( tune).

We have continued to hear the children read and have put an extra book in their book bags for the half term break.  Please continue to hear your child read as much as possible and practise reading the blue and yellow tricky words.

This week in set sentence,  we have written sentences including the tricky word ‘the’ e.g.  The chick is fluffy.   The ship is green.   It would be great if the children could write a sentence about something they have done over the break.

In Talk Through Stories, we looked at different vocabulary from the book - Slow Samson.  We discussed the meaning of the words -  rushed, lonely, annoyed, charged, distracted, arrived, sobbed and received.

In maths we practised counting  backwards from 5.  We  revised comparing numbers by using our previous knowledge of the Numberblocks staircase.

We used the language ‘before’ and ‘after’ when comparing numbers.  We looked iat a 1 - 10 number line. We made a number line on the carpet and then practised jumping on 1 or 2 steps on the number line.

In Project, we listened to the story - Planting a Rainbow

The children then had a go at mixing the primary colours to paint a rainbow flower.  The children really enjoyed experimenting with the colours.

In RE, we continued our work on special buildings and found out about Mosques.

In RSHE, we read the story - Monkey Cow and discussed keeping safe on the internet.

The children didn’t have Rugby today due to staff illness but they really enjoyed it.  There will be no Rugby after the half term  but they will carry on with PE on Monday afternoons after the half term break.

We had our class photo taken on Tuesday and can’t wait to see it.

Have a lovely break and we will see you on Monday 1st June.
