Jade and Lime Class Blog- week commencing 5.10.26

This week ....

This week...

The children finished off their  Christmas Card designs and they have a copy of their design and information in their book bag on how to order copies of their card.

On Monday  we did our information session about phonics/curriculum for parents - we are currently writing up some information to send out to the parents who could not make it.

We started teaching Phonics this week and the children have been amazing.  They are really enjoying listening to the songs for each phoneme .  This week we have learnt s,a,t,i, p and learnt actions to go with each sound.  We also practised segmenting and blending some 2 and 3 letter words with these sounds in, e.g  pat, sip, tap, pip, tip, pit, sat,at, it, sit.   Here is a video of how to say all the individual sounds here.  Some parents have said how useful the Jolly Phonics app is - there is more information about it if you click here.

Please keep playing games with the children where they can practise recognising the sounds s,a,t,i,p.  The children can practise segmenting and blending the words. Next week we will give the children copies of Word Box Words, these are words for the children to practise segmenting and blending. We will give the children a new set each week.  These words can either be kept in a strip or cut up so that you can make up games for the children to play e.g. place one word next to each number 1 -6, roll a dice and get the children the word next to the corresponding number.

We started Mastering Number which is our maths programme and we have looked at 1, 2, and 3. The children have started to learn to subitise which is when they are able to recognise an amount without counting. e.g by looking at the dots below and saying the number or showing that amount of fingers. They have also met Number Wumber who is our maths puppet who helps the children with their counting and they help the puppet to improve his maths.

In Project we  discussing people who help us at home and also what the children do to help at home, we have talked about family members and belonging to a family and we have also talked about friendships and what makes a good friend. We have had a story that goes alongside each lesson - Superhero Dad, Just Like My Mum and Lost and Found.

The children started RE where we discussed special people and role models.

Over the past few weeks we have started Marvellous Me in class too where a child is chosen each week to be Marvellous Me and they get to sit in a special chair and be the first in the line! They share with the class all the things that makes them marvellous and we put their words into a star which they will bring home.

The daily stories in Jade Class have been Percy the Park keeper books and in Lime Class they have been Winnie the Witch stories.

This week we also started Squiggle where the children make large movements with their arms using 'flipper, flappers' which are pieces of  material.  They then make the same big movements on a large piece of paper.  We do this to music and the children have really enjoyed this.

We have also continued to play both inside and outside and dough disco.

Have a good week!
