Admissions
Admissions to Alderman Peel High School
We recognise that starting secondary school or changing school is a big step, and we do all we can to aid the transition process. Although we have many primary feeder schools both within and outside catchment, we pride ourselves in ensuring that we visit each and every Year 6 student in the summer term before they start at APHS in September.
A carefully planned induction programme commences in July where students spend three days at APHS and parents/carers are invited to attend our Induction Evening. This helps students to get to know the rest of their tutor group, make new friends and settle quickly into our school.

How places are allocated if we are oversubscribed:
If there are more applications for places than there are places available, the LA Admissions will admit children in the following order of priority:
- Looked after children (previously known as children in the care of the Local Authority) and all previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order).
- Children who have a sibling on roll at APHS at the time of the proposed admission. Siblings are “brothers or sisters living at the same address including adopted children, step brothers, step-sisters and children in foster care within a family unit.
- Children of staff working for Wensum Trust:
a. where the member of staff has been employed at any Wensum Trust school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the Alderman Peel High School is made or
b. where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. - Children attending one of our designated feeder schools and living within the catchment area of the school in accordance with the boundaries drawn up by the LA.
- Children attending one of our designated feeder schools and not living in catchment area of the school in accordance with the boundaries drawn up by the LA.
- Children living nearest to APHS, by straight line distance (“as the crow flies”).

In-year admission and appeals
We commission Norfolk County Council to adjudicate all admission appeals. You can found more information here: https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/article/38201/School-admission-appeals
Appeal for a secondary school place
You can appeal for a secondary school place if:
- You applied for transfer to secondary school for September 2026, and
- Your child was not offered a place at one of your preferred schools on national offer day (2 March 2026)
If you're appealing for a place at a school outside Norfolk, you need to contact the school's local authority. You can use Get Information about Schools to find a school's local authority.
Before you appeal
You should read advice about admission appeals for parents and guardians on GOV.UK.
You may also want to read:
- Guide for parents appealing for a place at a voluntary controlled or community school (PDF, 419 KB)
- Guide for parents appealing for a place at a school or academy that is its own admissions authority (PDF, 187 KB)
Not all appeals are successful. Only 26 of the 105 appeals heard in Norfolk for the September 2025 secondary transfer round were successful.
You need to give notice that you intend to appeal for a secondary school place by Friday 13 March 2026.
- Contact the school's headteacher and tell them you want to appeal
- The school will send you an appeal form
You need to complete and return the appeal form by Friday 27 March 2026.
Make sure you explain why you're appealing for a place at the school and include any supporting information.
Return the completed form to the school.
Prepare for the appeal hearing
You will be invited to an appeal hearing in May or June 2026. We will conduct the hearing:
- By video call using Microsoft Teams,
- By phone, or
- Using written submissions
We will tell you how and when the appeal will be heard at least 10 school days before the hearing takes place.
