Infant School

9.3.20

In English last week and this we have been reading the story of George and the Dragon. The children learned about settings and used repetative language to describe different space settings. They then chose a dragon character and a creature for our dragon to be afraid of! We had great fun describing them! The children planned a story using their characters and finally wrote their own dragon stories. To finish the week the children used paper strips and folded them to make dragon bodies. They added legs, faces and wings to create their own dragon puppets.

In maths we have been learning all about length and height. We have been comparing and ordering objects from longest to shortest and from tallest to shortest. We learned how to measure using cubes, coins and other objects and discovered it is really important to make sure we use objects that are all the same size when we measure. Finally we learned about centimetres and how to use a ruler to draw straight lines and to measure.

In topic this week we have been thinking about space vehicles. We learned about what materials they are made of and the importance of the shape of a vehicle. The children then designed their own vehicles and we will be using junk modelling materials to make them next Friday.
