Year 7 Game Changers

Year 7 boys have successfully completed the 'Game Changers' outreach programme offered by the University of East Anglia.

This half term, the UEA Outreach Game Changers programme was introduced to twenty-seven Year 7 boys. The programme is part of a male-aspiration project called He Can We Can and aims to familiarise young boys with university life, with an aim to encourage self-confidence and raise aspirations to progress onto further education and university.

In previous years, the programme had taken place at the UEA and included a tour of the campus and its fantastic facilities and accommodation. However, due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the boys completed the programme in school using interactive student workbooks which were supplied by the UEA and delivered by Mr Wilding.

As well as increasing knowledge and understanding about going to university, the programme provided inspiring examples of male students from our local area that studied at university, along with useful links to help explore university, study skills and careers. These all helped our students to appreciate the importance of motivation and resilience in achieving future ambitions.

"The workbooks featured engaging topics and the UEA student videos gave the Year 7 boys an insight to the courses, accommodation, clubs and societies. The 'Ask Me' link within the digital workbook allowed the boys to ask any further questions they had regarding all aspects of university life. It was a great opportunity for everyone involved."

- Mr Wilding, Director of Learning PE & Expressive Arts

All those who completed the programme received a Game Changers certificate and those who went the extra mile (by completing additional surveys) will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £25 vouchers.
