English
This week we are continuing to explore the book Ocean Meets Sky by the Fan brothers. We have been thinking of other places Finn’s boat could have travelled to and been creating our own world’s. This will help us to write setting descriptions and add an extra part to the book and to Finn’s adventure. As part of your home learning it would be great if you could talk to your children about their ‘land’ or ‘island’ and get them to describe it to you. Year 2s have been working hard at using prepositions such as above me, under my feet, just to my left, all around me.
Maths
Year 1
In maths we are continuing to learn about tens and ones. We are really good at counting in 10s and have been using this knowledge to partition (split) larger numbers into tens and ones. We have also been comparing numbers by looking closely at the 10s number and, if this is the same, the 1s number.
At home
Can you split these numbers into tens and ones. For example – 59 is 5 tens and 9 ones.
41
38
67
Write the correct symbol to compare these numbers.
27 82 38 31
95 59 27 25
Year 2
This week the year 2 children are revising multiplication of 2s, 5s, 10s and the corresponding division facts. They are sharing and grouping using resources and using this knowledge to create fact families. For example: 7 groups of 2 = 14, 2 groups of 7 = 14 so 14 sared into groups of 2 = 7 and 14 shared into groups of 7 = 2.
At Home
Practise skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
There are lots of sings to help on youtube too - Scratch Garden are great.
Project
This week we have begun a new project - Science - Animal parts. The children have been recapping the names of different body parts for humans and then learning about similar and different body parts in animals. We have also then learned about animals groups - amphibians, mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and invertebrates. We found out about different characteristics of these groups and sorted animals into them.
Attached is the knowledge organiser for this project.
