Week beginning 29th November

Adjectives and doubling and halving shapes and amounts

English

In English this week we have been listening to the story of "There's a Lion in my Cornflakes!" We have been pretending to animals from the story and thinking about how they would move, what they would sound like and act like. We then described them and thought about what they looked like and words to describe their personality, for example, fierce, grumpy.

Can you describe one of your toys at home? What colour are they? Do they have a personality?

Maths

In Maths this week we have continued our learning about shapes but we have been learning about equal and unequal. The children investigated folding shapes in different ways to see if each side was equal or unequal. We used the language "Half" for 2 equal sides. The year 2 children also folded their shapes into 4  pieces and learned about quarters for 4 equal pieces.

Then we used our knowledge to think about amounts and investigated doubling and halving amounts of cubes. We finished the week putting our knowledge into use by problem solving.

Can you look for and find half of things at home? How many people in your family? Can you find half? Is your family an odd or an even amount?

Topic

In our topic work this week we have been learning about parts of the body. One of the children laid on the carpet and we labelled him! It was great fun. We then used a photo of ourselves and identifies the different parts of our body and labelled them.
