Big Talk

This week we would like you to talk about time. Some things you could talk about are…

  • What day of the week is it?
  • How many days are there in a week?
  • How many days are there in a year?
  • Do you know the different seasons?
  • What month are we in?
  • How many months are there?
  • What time is it?
  • Where are the hands on the clocks?
  • Do you know what the time is?

Last week we focused on the different /a/ graphemes and this week we have been thinking about the different graphemes for /e/. Our spellings for this week are...

arm

seen

three

seat

cream

please

teenager

English

Do you know the difference between an open question and a closed question? That's what we have been thinking about this week during English lessons. We recapped when and how to use a question mark and then thought of different open and closed questions to ask each other, the adults in the class and then Queen Elizabeth II.

Later in the week we will be recapping on the features of letters and having a go at writing some letters to different people. As part of your home learning how about writing a letter to a family or friend? Can you remember all the key features?

Maths

In Maths lessons this week we have been learning how to perform addition and subtraction on a number line. We have learnt how to do small jumps for ones and big jumps for tens.

Later in the week we will be learning how to draw an empty number line to perform 2 digit addition and subtraction for numbers above 30.

Mrs Ellis' Maths Challenge

This week I would like you to draw an empty number line to prove your answer. I will need to see the number line in order for you to gain a team point!

Mrs Ellis collects 58 Pokémon cards. She gives 10 cards away to Dougie. She then gives 12 to Mr Brister. How many cards does Mrs Ellis have left?

(** Note for parents- children can either perform 58-10, and then 48-12 OR they could do 10+12 and then 58-22.)

Topic

Continuing with our topic on Castles this week we will be learning about a very famous King how had 6 (not 8!) wives. The children will be learning about his life and why he is such a famous and well known King. As part of your home learning you could learn an interesting fact about Henry VIII before Friday to share with the class.

R.E.

Previously in R.E. lessons we have been learning about different religions and some of their important celebrations. This half-term we are learning about the Jewish celebration of Passover. Over the weeks we will be thinking about respect, why and how Jewish people respect their God, why they celebrate Passover and also how they celebrate Passover. Children will learn about the Seder plate and will then design their own special meal for someone they respect and love.

R.S.H.E.

This half-term in R.S.H.E. we are talking about dreams and goals.

We have been thinking about our achievements and how this made us feel. We have all set ourselves a goal to challenge ourselves. We talked about the best way to do this, the importance of perseverance and over the next few weeks we will be attempting to complete our challenges. Our challenges include... learning how to do the Macarena dance, how to count to 10 in Mandarin Chinese, learning to count up in multiples of 2 in French and to recite the poem The Owl & the Pussycat.Jigsaw PSHE on Twitter: "Brilliant work!
