3D shape and dragon poems

Big Talk

This week we would like you to read through the poem below and talk about the type of dragon you would like. Can you think of any words to make it rhyme?

I wish I had a dragon with a tail as long as a snake, with wings as wide as the ocean, so strong it makes the ground shake.

English

This week we are listening to Dragon poems. We have been answering questions about poems during whole class guided reading and will also be writing our own dragon poems. We will be thinking about rhyme, repetition, alliteration, acrostic poems and descriptive poems.

I have an invisible dragon.
She’s such a remarkable flyer.
She soars through the sky on invisible wings
exhaling invisible fire.

My dragon is utterly silent.
She soundlessly swoops through the air.
Why, she could be flying beside you right now,
and you’d never know she was there.

And if you should reach out to pet her,
I don’t think you’d notice too much.
Her body is simply too airy and light
to sense her by means of a touch.

And just as you don’t see or hear her,
and just as she cannot be felt,
my dragon does not have an odor at all,
which means that she’ll never be smelt.

Although you may find this outlandish,
you just have to trust me, it’s true.
And, oh, by the way, did I mention I have
an invisible unicorn too?

Maths

This week is all about 3D shape. We will be recapping and naming 3D shapes and the shape of everyday objects. We will be thinking about the number of faces and the shapes, the number of edges (where 2 faces meet) and the number of vertices (where 2 edges meet). Children will also be comparing the 3D shapes.

At home, you could go on a shape hunt and try to find something which is a cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and pyramid (either square-based or triangle-based).

Topic

This week we will be thinking about all the things we have learnt in our Castle's topic this term. We will also be getting a visit from a very special person who once lived in a castle this week!

Don't forget...

This week is Mrs Foster's last week in Emerald class. We have loved having her here for this term and wish her the very best of luck in her summer term placement.

The last day of Spring term is Friday 1st April. We return to school for our final term on Tuesday 19th April.

Thank you for your continued support this term. The children have worked incredibly hard and should feel very proud of their efforts. Have a fun and restful break, and we look forward to seeing you all for the final term at Garrick Green.
