There's still a lion in my cornflakes and addition using tens & ones

Big Talk

This week for the big talk we would like you to think and talk about…

  • What makes penguins so good at living in cold conditions?
  • Can you think of other animals that live in such cold places?
  • Would penguins make good pets?
  • How do you think this penguin is feeling and why?
  • If a penguin came to live with you how could it help you?

English

This week we will be writing our own version of the story 'There's a Lion in my Cornflakes'. The children will be making a story plate to help them retell their story and will be sharing their stories with others before they write it. Later in the week children will have a go at editing their work to check they have used the correct punctuation and spellings. As part of your home learning it would be great if you can get your child to talk through their story at home and support them in using some ambitious language and vocabulary!

Maths

In maths this week we have been doing some assessments and also using tens and ones for 2 digit addition. We have been using tens and ones and then learning how to draw them to help us solve problems for 2 digit addition. We know that we need to draw the tens in the tens column and the ones in the ones column. To find the total of both numbers we count up all the tens and all the ones. Below is an example...
