Week beginning 19th April

Topic

The children have settled back into school quickly after the Easter holidays and this week we started to think about our topic for this term, "Best of British". We spent lots of time recapping what we had learned about the UK in International week. Then we thought about where we live and what we already know about. At the end of the day we listened to the National Anthem and thought about what else we would like to learn. The children had some interesting ideas.

English

In English this week we have been learning about instructions. We learned the time connectives "First, Next, Then, After that" and "Finally". We used them to order the instructions for how to make a pizza. Once the children were really confident with saying and giving instructions we then write them using our phonics to help. We really focussed on Capital letters and Full stops as the children are forgetting these!

Maths

Our maths work this week was thinking all about the numbers to 100. We thought about how to count large amounts by putting objects into groups of 10 to make it easier. We also split numbers into tens and ones and used lots of different manipulatives to show ways to do this. We used a great game to help us recognise and say missing numbers. Here is the link if you want to try at home.

Day of Calm

On Tuesday Elise came back into school to teach us more about mindfulness and being calm. She came last term and we learned all about breathing and yoga. This time we learned more about being mindful and thinking in the present. The children played a game where they had to use words to describe an object to a friend rather than naming the object. It was good to focus on its qualities instead of simply naming it and the children rose to the challenge! We also listened to her singing bowl and practised some yoga.

Don't Forget

We are still doing PE every day so the children need to come to school in joggies, leggings, shorts and school tops. Please remember appropriate footwear.
