Summer. Week 2. Fairy tales.

English

Our English work this week has been about fairy tales. We have been reading and listening to lots of different fairy tales. Then we talked about the characters and if they were good or bad, the settings and the important props that were used in each story. We retold the fairy tales using the props and made sure we knew the stories really well.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about 3D shapes. We went on a shape hunt outside and then used 3D shapes to make models and patterns. We talked about the different shape names and sorted them into different groups depending on their properties. For example if they rolled or of they had straight edges. Here are the main shapes we talked about and their names.

Can you talk about the similarities and difference between the shapes? Can you name the shapes? Where can you see these shapes around you?

Topic

Our topic work this week was learning about the different flowers and creatures in our gardens. We were really lucky with the weather and spent a whole morning in the school garden hunting for minibeasts, sketching flowers and pond dipping. It was great fun! We learned about where different types of minibeast could be found and also saw some newts and frogs in the pond!

Things to remember.....

Please remember to apply suncream when the weather is good as we are trying to get outside for learning as much as possible.

Friday 25th June is non-uniform day.

Children should be reading at least 5 times a week for 10-15 minutes each time. This can be school books, books from home or from the library. It is also really important to read books several times as this helps with recognising tricky words and with improving fluency and understanding of the stories.
