Week 3 - Animals and Subtraction

English

In English this week we have been practising using adjectives (describing words) to talk about animals. We looked at pictures of a giraffe, a colourful fish and an eagle and described them. Then we watched short videos of them moving and thought about words we can use to describe movement too.  We have been making sure we can say a sentence clearly and counting the words before trying to write it down. At the end of the week we learned some facts about other wild animals and made a short fact file about our favourites.

Maths

In maths this week we have learned the symbol "-" meaning take away, subtract or minus. We used cubes to practise taking away. We then moved on to "crossing out" (see below) and writing the number sentences.

Can you create your own crossing out sums within 20 at home?

Topic

In topic this week we learned about the artist Henri Rouseaux. We looked carefully at his picture "Surprise" (Tiger ina Tropical Storm) and used pastels to create our own. Some children made animals masks and we will be finishing both these activities next Friday.

Hanging On

Here is a picture of some Possums.

How many exciting adjectives can you think of to describe them?

How do you think the mother possum is feeling?

Where do you think she is trying to go?
