Infant School

Year 1 W/c 15th March

Spring 2 - week 5

This week the children are feeling much more confident with the routines of school again, although everyone is feeling quite tired!

In year 1 we have continued to think about, name and talk about how we are feeling. This week we have also learned about how our brain works when it is trying to cope with "Big feelings". We learned about how to identify the "animal" part of our brain that reacts to big emotions and feelings and how to help the "thinking" part of our brain calm everything down. It was really interesting and we are looking forward to learning more.

We have been practising maths every day and this week focussing on counting in 2, 5 and 10. We have been trying to start from any number instead of just starting at 0 and also trying to count backwards.

In phonics we have been focussing on reading skills, especially looking for digraphs and split digraphs in words and reading tricky words by sight.

As a whole school we have been learning about the artist David Hockney and looking at some of his paintings, We learned about how he has used many different media to create art, such as watercolours, poster paint, pastels and i-pads. We watched a video about how he used different patterns to make his pictures interesting and had a go at using pencils and felt tips to create lots of patterns of our own. We have chosen our favourite pictures by Hockney and are using them as inspiration to create our own artwork. We are using watercolours or poster paints and will add the details using pastel.

Going deaf has sharpened my art, David Hockney says

We are still doing PE every day and this week we have been practising balancing. It's proving tricky!
