Week 2 of Summer term

English

This week in English we are looking at instruction writing. We are thinking about different types of instructions and what makes a good set of written instructions. As part of your home learning you could have a god at following or making some instructions to follow. You could write some instructions for a Lego model or draw some pictures to show how to make a slice of toast.

Can you have a go at making Mrs Ellis's instructions for making a cup of tea any better? You could do this verbally with your adults or have a go at writing it down. Have I remembered to use time words (first, next, then, finally), imperative (bossy) verbs and does it make sense?

How to make a cup of tea

1. First get a cup

2. Put water in kettle

3. Tea bag

4. Add water

5. Pour milk

6. Teabag out

7. Drink

Maths

In maths this week we are thinking about place value. We have got back to basics with all of the different resources we have such as tens and ones, numicom, bead strings and tens and ones counters. We have been partitioning 2 digit number using different resources and also finding different ways to partition them. Knowing that numbers can be partitioned in different ways helps us with addition and subtraction.

Here is an example of the number 34 being partitioned in different ways using tens and ones:

Well-being

On Tuesday we had a visitor! Ellise from our Sports Partnership came into school to deliver day 2 - Day of Calm. She came in back in the Autumn term for day 1and will be returning next Tuesday for the final day 3. She taught us some different breathing techniques, how to focus our attention using sight, hearing and touch and we ended the session with some yoga.

Each week we are continuing with daily PE and daily phonics. We are spending as much time as we can outside so please make sure your children have spare clothes in school at all times.

Please remember to read 5 times a week (or more!) and record these in your child's reading diary. Thank you.
