Addition and instruction writing

English

This week in English we have continued to think about instructions. The children helped the adults to plant some seeds thinking first about what equipment we would need. Then they used time words (such as first, next, then, after that and finally), imperative (bossy) verbs (pick, get, pour) and adverbs (would which describe verbs) to direct the teachers on what to do. Mrs Ellis poured water into the tray at the end and then the children adjusted the instructions so that she poured it on to the seed!

The children will be writing and editing their instructions this week as well.

Maths

In maths this week we have been recapping on addition and crossing 10. We have been using tens frames and reinforcing our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help solve addition problems.

Here is an example (you may remember doing this during Lock down)...

Here is an interactive resource you can use to have a go at home...

Mindfulness

This week we were really fortunate to do our final day of calm with Ellise. We had a go at mindful eating, drawing to music, moving to music, and sharing the smile. We are continuing to use these strategies daily in class to help us to be kind, stay calm and be able to focus ready for learning.

Don't forget...

  • Next week is Bank Holiday Monday so we hope you all enjoy the long weekend
  • Please remember that we ask that children read at least 5 times a week for about 10-15 minutes. It's really useful for us if you record this in their reading diaries. Thank you.
